March 14, 2017. Travel turmoil

LOCATION: Harlingen, Texas

WEATHER:  Sunny. Highs in 70s

We went to the Retama Village development offices this morning and completed the closing paperwork.  We are now officially homeowners again!

Then, we went with our builder to the house to do a "walk through".  He is very accommodating.  So far, we haven't detected many issues to fix.

I've been watching the news, and got concerned about our flight to Shannon, as we have to transfer in Newark, where a blizzard is predicted for the day of our flight.  I've been trying to call United Airlines, but of course, their lines are busy due to the calls related to the storm.  George made fun of me for trying to call, but I thought I should try to get re-routed before everyone else did the same.  We could not get through.  Then we received an email from United saying that our flight from Newark to Shannon has been canceled due to the weather.  They don't give any online options, so we tried calling again.  Again, couldn't get through.  So, we stopped in the regional airport near our house and talked with the gate agent. He worked and worked on getting us re-routed.  Lots of "ay-aye-ayes" and sweat later, he was able to change our route to avoid Newark.  Instead of flying Houston-Newark-Shannon, we will go Houston-London-Shannon.  We found an administration area where we could write a compliment about his customer service. I about cried as I was so relieved.  It was touch-and-go that we would miss St. Patrick's Day in Limerick, but now looks like all is well.  :-).

We are staying near the Harlingen airport in a local hotel chain...  "Howdy, Folks!"

I got on the phone again to Medicare and Social Security to sort out my terminated Medicare Part B insurance.  The phone tree said there would be a 2-hour wait!  I am so frustrated!!!!

DINNNER:  We returned our rental car earlier in the day to avoid another day's charges, so walked to a restaurant for dinner.  The closest place was the grill inside of an immense Bass Pro Shop.

Their restaurant is called the Fish Bowl.  It is a bowling alley with an underwater theme.  Very surreal.

We split a grilled grouper sandwich.  Nothing spectacular, but ok.
