January 18, 2017. Following the Rio Grande

CAMPGROUND:  Brush Country RV Park.  Full hook-ups.  Sorry bathroom and shower.  Excellent wifi.  No TV.  Plenty of room with large pull-through sites.  7 out of 10 stars.  $25/night

LOCATION:  In the middle of nowhere, south central Texas.  Carrizo Springs

WEATHER:  Much warmer.  Highs about 60

We left the RV park in Alpine and stopped at a few stores.
Looking at the map, we would not be going through any major town for a long time.  I bought some hamburger for dinner.  George headed for the hardware.  He bought a part for the Airstream's water tank which broke off when we had our little near-death experience running in the ditch yesterday.  He also bought an electric tea kettle to replace ours which had stopped working from old age. This little appliance is the best thing I ever thought of to bring on the road.  I use it to make coffee in the mornings and to heat water for dish washing. Even when we are camping in national or state parks without electricity, there is usually an outlet in the ladies' restroom where I can heat up water.  Brilliant!

We drove south then east then south, hugging the Rio Grande.  About the only traffic was border control vehicles.....lots of pick-ups, guys on horseback, and we even saw a blimp tethered  to the ground.  We passed through several inspection points. A K-9 usually sniffs around the Airstream to make sure we are not harboring any illegals.

We passed through Judge Roy Bean's old territory, where he dealt justice in the cowboy days.

We drove about 5 hours.  There weren't any interesting places to stay, so we pulled in to this RV park.  This town used to be booming with oil patch workers.  There are several RV parks that used to be camps for the workers.  Now, they are for tourists.  They are all almost empty.  But, the owner/manager greeted us jovially and seemed genuinely happy to see us.  We got set up and started a fire. This is the first one we have had in a long time. This is what we like about camping!

We grilled hamburgers over the fire while we watched a pretty sunset.

DINNER:  Grilled hamburgers with sautéed mushrooms.  Steamed broccoli  on the side.
