January 15, 2017. Chirachua National Monument

CAMPGROUND:  Last night at Turquoise Valley RV Park

LOCATION:  Naco, Arizona

WEATHER:  Cold and windy.  Highs in 40s

It rained all night, a real test for the Airstream.  Happily, no leaks.  The rain turned to snow in the mountains.  Strange to see snowy mountain tops in Mexico.

We Skyped with a family in Scotland, a potential housesitting assignment.  Yeah!  They selected us.  So, our spring itinerary so far is housesitting in Lake Norman, NC, then flying to Europe with assignments in rural Scotland, eastern coast Italy and Brittany, France.  We hope to snag a few more to fill in the gaps.

Our destination today was Chirachua National Monument, about 75 miles from Naco.  We passed through miles of desolate grassland, with an occasional dwelling like this...

The roads were like a roller coaster, with lots of dips.  Every 100 yards, there were these signs.

Since it had rained overnight, there truly were floods in the bottom areas.

The national monument was beautiful.  The rock formations are sensational.

We took a scenic drive up to the snowy top.

Then, down to more interesting rocks.

Back in Naco, we did grocery shopping and laundry to prep for the next leg.

DINNER:  Tortillas with beans and veg.
