CAMPGROUND: Another night at Prince Rupert RV Park
LOCATION: Prince Rupert, British Columbia
WEATHER: Rainy and cool. High about 60
A lazy morning chatting with Tony and Jen, drinking coffee and staying warm and dry in our campers. Most of the campers in this park are fishermen. We watch them coming and going. The guys next to us hauled in a ton of salmon
Off we went to visit an old salmon cannery that is now a museum.. Very well-preserved. Many of the workers lived in these bunkhouses. They had sections for each ethnicity - Japanese, Chinese, First Nation, European. The administrators lived in these houses.
The workers lived in these bunkhouses.
The First Nations workers were the only ones that lived as a family unit, in these little houses...
They only were paid once, at the end of the season, so bought everything on credit at the company store, at highly inflated prices.
After touring the museum, we headed back to town and found a seafood restaurants for some lunch - Dungeness crab hoagie, fish (halibut) and chips, and chowder. All tasty.
We found the brewery and enjoying chatting with a local guy about the economy of the town. It is recovering after a bad spell when the pulp mill closed. They have re-energized the town with a new container shipping terminal.
Back at the camper, we cooked dinner outside on Tony's propane grill.
DINNER: Stir-fried vegetables and chicken over rice.
