WEATHER: Highs in 80s. Hazy skies clearing from smoke
We picked up our homeowners at the Boise Airport, dropped them off at home, kissed the dogs goodbye, and hit the road. This has been a great housesitting assignment. We really like Boise, and hope to return to explore some more, as we ran out of time to see/do everything we had wanted to. Next time, we want to visit Sun Valley, and Ketchum, and of course, more breweries and wineries!
We left Boise at noon and had a 5.5 hour road trip, almost directly north to Lewiston, Idaho/Clarkston, Washington. The landscape was a mix of dry farmland and rugged canyons. Without irrigation the land is all brown; with irrigation the fields are lush.
George stopped for a "break"....
We followed the Snake River, then the Salmon River. As we neared Lewiston, I noticed massive fields. There were signs identifying the crops, which was interesting....winter wheat, spring wheat, alfalfa, garbanzo beans, and spring canola.
Hooray! We picked up the Airstream in a parking lot adjacent to the RV park. It is all ok, but the battery is dead. We think the culprit is the radio. When we closed one of the bins last July, we think the bin accidentally hit the "on" button and turned it on. We have electricity in this RV park tonight, so we hope the battery gets enough "juice" overnight to get us going tomorrow. (The main thing is the refrigerator; we hope we can run it tomorrow as we travel with gas and battery.)
We spent some time rearranging our stuff in the truck and inside the camper. I had done grocery shopping while in Boise, so we are in good shape to hit the road tomorrow.
DINNER: When we had eaten at a pub in Boise the other night, we used a "buy one, get one free" coupon. So tonight, we had dinner #2 from the pub - a Greek hamburger and fries. Not too healthy, but good.
