LOCATION: Housesitting in Boise, Idaho
WEATHER: Hot, but low humidity makes it bearable
After a morning playing fetch with the dogs, we took off for the country, in search of a brewery and/or winery. We were successful, of course!
When I was growing up and when people from other parts of the country/world would ask where I'm from, I would answer "Iowa. They would respond "Oh, that's the state with potatoes". I would respond, "No, Iowa has corn; Idaho has potatoes". However, now that I'm here, I'm confused. There is corn everywhere!
There are also lots of potatoes growing....We also see fields of onions, beets, peas, and crops we cannot identify.
We found a brewery in a little suburb of Boise. It has a real homey environment. We had a coupon for a free beer, and the waitress cut out another coupon from another flyer, so we each had a free beer. Nice!
Then on out to the country. We found the Snake River Wine District. The first winery we went to was very "hip". The second one looked like an Italian mansion in a field of vineyards. The view was beautiful.
We came home to take care of the dogs, then left again to meet up with George's cousin and her family. We met at Bier Thirty - cute name for a beer shop and pub.
We had a nice time chatting with them.
George tried to give Betty June a hug... She wasn't too thrilled.
For dinner, we went to a restaurant where we had a buy one, get one free coupon. We shared an ahi tuna melt sandwich, and brought home a burger for tomorrow night. Good deal!
