August 17, 2017. Lots of nature in northern British Columbia

CAMPGROUND:  Smithers Municipal RV Park.  Next to the river.  Like a commercial park with showers, hook-ups.  Firepits, picnic tables and communal kitchen.  $28US.  4 out of 5 stars

LOCATION:  Smithers, British Columbia.  About halfway between Prince George and Prince Rupert

WEATHER:  Much cooler.  Highs in 60s.  Perfect, cool nights for camping/sleeping

We awoke at this tiny campground on the lake to sheer beauty.  The smoke from the forest fires cleared a bit and we could see snow on the surrounding mountain tops.  The mist on the lake shimmered in the early morning sun.
After returning from the pit toilet, I found that George had turned on the heater.  I had to smack him and turn it off!    Not far from our campground is a new provincial park called Ancient Forest.  It has a really nice boardwalk hike through the forest.  Hikers told us that they had spotted a bear here yesterday.
We didn't see a bear, but we did see a grey/white wolf.  These trees are 1000 years old, and are very tall.
This area is just gorgeous.

We drove 350 miles today, stopping briefly  in Prince George at the Visitors' Center.  We decided to stay overnight in Smithers, so that we won't have a long day tomorrow to Prince Rupert.  We have sure come a long way from Mission!

We pulled into this city park at about 5:00.  We got the very last site.  Lucky!  It started to rain and we were glad to be parked.

DINNER:  There is a fire ban thoughout British Columbia, so we haven't been able to cook over a campfire.  I miss it.  We ate leftover lasagne from the housesit in Boise.

  1. I am sure you are looking forward to meet up with your friends at Prince Rupert. The dogs miss you two! We have housesitters coming our way again from Arizona. Enjoy your time! Teresa
