December 5, 2016. Grave blankets?

LOCATION:  Ferndale, Michigan WEATHER:  Cloudy.  Highs in 40s   We worked around our daughter's house most of the day.  We are trying to help them get one of their cars ready to sell.  George has a long "honey-do" list, which includes several time-sensitive tasks such as putting up the outdoor Christmas lights.  However, instead, he chose an obscure matter of fixing the squirrel feeder which took several hours.  :-(   We went to the post office to mail some Christmas gifts.  The service was unbelievably slow.  The lady in front of us waited 20 minutes for a clerk to show.  The clerk waited on her, then said she had to take something to the back before she could help us.  She disappeared for another half hour!  The people behind us, especially a red-head, got really angry. The US Post Office really needs an overhaul!

We have been puzzled by these "grave blankets" at floral shops and high-end markets here.

So, I looked it up on the internet and it seems like it is something people buy at Christmas to decorate loved ones' graves.  I think it must be a local custom, as I've never heard of this before.  Sort of strange...

DINNER:  Chef Meredith made us soft shell crab "po-boys".  Yum!
