LOCATION: St. George Island, Florida
WEATHER: Beautiful. Highs in 70s
We left foggy Panama City Beach and drove through more tricky-tacky beach towns, then several miles of pine forest, then quaint Apalachicola magically appeared! It is a small village famous for its oysters. Oyster and shrimp boats are docked downtown.
We quickly found ourselves at the appropriately-named Oyster City Brewery where we had beers. It is a real working brewery!
The waitress recommended the Hole in the Wall restaurant next door for oysters....So, of course we had a dozen raw. Very tangy.
Then, across the bridge to St. George Island. We were lucky to get a campsite. After settling in, we took a walk along the beach. We were the only people for miles.
Then, about 8 miles back into the village on St. George Island to a beach dive bar..."a sunny place for shady people".
Imagine my surprise at seeing a car with Truro license plates in the parking lot! I'm from Truro, Iowa and have visited Truros in Nova Scotia, Massachusetts, and England.
Back at the campground, George made a fire and we baked potatoes in the coals. DINNER: Baked potatoes stuffed with meat, cheese and onions. Really good.
