LOCATION: Austin, TX
WEATHER: Cloudy. Much cooler. Highs in 50s
Our friend Heather from Minnesota, now Michigan, picked us up and we took off to explore the area. First we hiked up to the top of Austin's only "mountain". There was a nice view, particularly of the mansions along the river that flows through the city. Then, we were off to the Hill Country, a beautiful area southwest of town. We planned to visit a couple of breweries. Unfortunately two were closed. We happened to drive past a winery so stopped there. It was really nice. Then, we found our first brewery that was open. We ordered tacos from the food truck parked in the brewery's parking lot.
We met a very jovial bunch of guys who are driving around Texas in search of flying saucers (and breweries). They were a lot of fun. The brewery is called Twisted Brewing.
After that, we headed back to Austin. We stopped at a weird place called the Whip In. It is a combination of an Indian and Tex/Mex restaurant along with a craft beer bar with about 100 beers on tap and a fancy wine shop. All in a place that looks like a dive. We bought some Indian food for take-out and enjoyed a beer.DINNER: We took the take-out to the house Heather is renting for a month. We had a spinach and rice dish, lamb samosas and green beans. All with interesting sauces. Very tasty!
