November 8, 2016. Shall we stay in Canada?!?

LOCATION: Vancouver, British Columbia WEATHER: A gorgeous day.  Sunny and warm. Highs in 60s   We awoke to sunshine and a beautiful rainbow over our inn.
We caught the island shuttle bus to the harbour in the south. The bus schedule is in sync with the ferry departures/arrivals, so we transferred smoothly to the ferry.   As we left Salt Spring Island, another rainbow formed over the harbour.
What an amazing way to leave a beautifull place.   When we traveled to the island a few days ago, we took a direct ferry route from Vancouver to the northern end of the island.  Today, we left from the southern harbor and are traveling to the mainland via Vancouver island.     The sunshine made the journey really magical.  We saw several ferries traveling between islands.  We could see snow-topped Mt. Baker in Washington from the ferry, too.
We arrived in Vancouver, then traveled via bus and the SkyTrain to our hotel.  I saw this billboard advertising Scott tissues in one of the stations.  How true....
We are staying two nights in the Gastown area, a funky section of downtown Vancouver, full of theaters, restaurants and pubs.  We watched the beginning of the election from a restaurant, sitting next to  patrons shaking their heads sadly as the returns came in.   We walked around the area and stopped in a brewery.  We were headed to a well-known restaurant when we passed by a tiny Cajun restaurant with a piano player playing cool songs.  So, we stopped there and had a bowl of gumbo.     Back in the hotel room, we hunkered down to watch the end of the elections.  We are really shocked and afraid for the world. Maybe we should just stay here.  Why not?  Beautiful place, great atmosphere, and Justin Trudeau seems like a sane person!

  1. Lots of nice property available as well, in many parts of Canada. We'd sponsor you through immigration :)

  3. Do you think we get special treatment because of our Canadian heritage? Wish Mom would have kept that dual citizenship!
