LOCATION: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
WEATHER: Rain, rain, rain. Highs about 50
We slept in a sleeper bed on the TransCanada Railroad last night. These are our seats....
Then, the cabin attendant turned them into bunk beds.
The bed was actually quite comfortable. We shared a bathroom with a German girl.
We arrived in Vancouver about 9:00 AM, after traveling from Edmonton for about 26 hours.
Vancouver has a great public transportation system. Right outside the train station was a SkyTrain stop. We took it to one of the suburbs called New Westminster. Hotels out here are much cheaper than downtown. My aunt and uncle had recommended this boutique hotel. It is really cute.
After we dumped our suitcases in the hotel, we went exploring. We are right on the Frazer River. We went to an indoor market area to watch the tugboats go by.
We walked to a brewery in the pouring rain. We stopped here to warm up and dry off a bit.
My cousin Jeremy picked us up in the evening and took us to a pub where they pour one of his favorite beers. Very good! Then, to another neighborhood with a tiny microbrewery where they make good IPAs. As we drove through different suburbs of Vancouver, I saw many ethnic areas. We passed through an area where everything was in Korean, and another one full of Indian restaurants. Vancouver is famous for its diversity and wonderful Asian cuisine.
