November 6, 2016. Off to the Gulf Islands

Note....this is really November 5.     LOCATION:  Ganges, Salt Spring Island, British Columbia WEATHER: Rain most of the day. Highs about 50   We had our last night in New Westminster, Vancouver's eastern suburb.  We have enjoyed our view of the Fraser River from our hotel room window.

It took us about all morning to get to the ferry terminal.  We had two long SkyTrain rides, then a bus trip to the terminal.  The crossing took about 2 hours.  We were lucky to  see some humpback whales along the way.  

We will be spending 3 days here in Salt Spring Island.  

We took a shuttle to Ganges, the island's main village.  Very cute.  We went to the visitors' center where the clerk let us store our bags while we waited for a transfer shuttle to our motel.  He told us that our motel had no restaurant and is quite a ways out of town.  So, we bought some food for a picnic in the room.  Then, he offered to drive us to the motel, as he said it is on his way home.  How kind!   We hiked around our motel some, but it is very hilly.  Then, a picnic in front of the TV watching British shows.
