November 13, 2016. Quiet, rainy day in Portland

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Portland, Oregon WEATHER:  Overcast and spotty rain all day. Highs in 50s   Today, Oregon lived up to its reputation as a rainy place.  It drizzled most of the day. We spent a lot of time indoors brushing Lola.  She likes to sit on my lap while I read.....she is a great lap warmer!   George did a lot of internet catch-up while I read.  He likes these quiet (aka to me boring) days.     In the late afternoon, I suggested a hike to a neighborhood pub.  It is about a one-mile hike, all downhill.  Of course that means that the return is all uphill. :(   The place is cutely named Wine and Growl.  We said we would "whine and growl" if it wasn't open when we arrived, but it was open and welcoming.  They serve lots of interesting wines and beers on tap. The Growl in the name refers to their sale of beer growlers too.  The menu looked very interesting, and we plan to return for dinner one evening.  We just had drinks and some gourmet popcorn today.

We sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely friendly and let George taste several beers, including a peanut butter stout, a light beer that had hints of coffee, and even one that tasted like bananas foster.  He went with a safe, black IPA.   DINNER:  Back home, I made stir-fried rice from our leftover stir-fry veg and chicken from the  other night.
