March 22, 2017. Exploring Glasgow

LOCATION:  Glasgow, Scotland

WEATHER:  Partly sunny.  Highs about 50

I think we are staying in the world's smallest hotel room.  It is very modern, with lots of built-ins.  It doesn't have a window, so we were disoriented about the time to wake up.  Our internal clocks did not let us down...we woke up about 7:00.

We had lots of time, so we walked about two miles to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, one of many art museums in Glasgow.  We stopped for a bagel in a little coffee shop.  The hostess called us "Love" all the time, and everything was just "lovely".  I wonder if the whole world would be a better, safer place if everyone talked like that.

The art gallery is part of the MacIntosh Trail, a series of buildings designed by a famous architect.  Many tourists come here just to follow the MacIntosh Trail.

In front of the museum are several lawn bowling fields.

The museum is very impressive.  It has a huge pipe organ,  and concerts are held daily.

This darling group of school children were just too cute, dressed in their medieval costumes.

We wandered around the museum for about two hours.  It has an eclectic collection of art.  This is a famous Salvatore Dali painting.

And this is a Van Gogh portrait of an Scottish friend whose last name was Reid.

The sculpture section was quite modern.... (These are skulls)

We popped into this nice restaurant for lunch.  Since it was cold, we had some delicious soup.

Then, we took a bus back downtown, where we caught a country bus out to a distillery. It was a one-hour bus ride, stopping several times in each little village.

This Glengoyne distillery is called Scotland's most beautiful one. We went on a tour and learned how single malts are made.

The highlight of the tour was a 'wee dram" of their 12-year-old whisky.  Then, we flagged down the bus and returned to town.

DINNER:  Two kinds of curry in an Indian restaurant.  We wanted to share one order, but they said that we had to buy a minimum of two meals.  So, we ate both and were absolutely stuffed, miserably full.
