April 3, 2017. Last day in Fife

LOCATION:  Housesitting outside of Cupar, Fife, Scotland

WEATHER:  Mostly sunny.  Highs in 50s

We spent the morning preparing for the homeowners' return.  We tidied up a bit and I prepared tonight's "welcome home" dinner.

Once they arrived, we took off so that they could rest up from their flight from Toronto.  We decided to go to the beach and enjoy our last hours of Fife.

This is the road in front of our house. The fields are separated by tall hedges.

There are also low stone walls, keeping the sheep organized.

It is lambing season now and these baby lambs, just a few days old, are so adorable!

We stopped in this quaint pub for lunch....a cup of soup and some smoked mackarel pate.  Very cozy atmosphere.

The beach was very nice.  We parked and walked about a half mile over the dunes to the sea.  I kept thinking that most fat Americans would not schlep all their stuff that far to get to the beach.

The wind was quite "fresh" (the British word for cold).

There are many paths through the dunes and adjacent forest.  This grouse is all over Great Britain.  Hopefully this will be the last day I need a stocking cap, scarf, and gloves for awhile!

The roads all over rural U.K.  are very narrow.  When you encounter another car, one car pulls over in a wide spot to let the other go through.

Back home, our homeowners (French) served an aperitif.  Then, neighbor John stopped by giving us some jars of pate and bringing some single malts to share.  We tasted several.  Wow!

DINNER:  Pasta with a meat sauce using Scottish sausages, which is all I could find.  Rocket (arugula) salad on the side.
