WEATHER: Partly sunny. Highs in 50s
My guidebook "Thousand Places to Go Before You Die" included the Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park, so off we went! It is about 50 miles from here. Sounds nearby, but there are no direct roads so it takes a good 2 hours. We did a circular drive around the park, stopping occasionally for pictures. These are Scottish Highland cows that have lots of fur to keep them warm, instead of a layer of fat like most cows do.
We stopped at one loch and took a hike. It is very pretty....but would be prettier on a sunnier day, I think.
We will miss the politeness and kindness of the Scottish people. Even their traffic signs are nice....
We stopped in a pub for lunch and shared a haggis burger. Haggis has come a long way.....from a modest meat product made out of questionable, unwanted bits to something used in burgers, paninis, pizza and nachos! From the Trossachs, we made a detour through Sterling whose castle rivals the Edinburgh Castle.
This nearby monument is in the midst of a housing development. Hard to imagine living so close to something historical like this.Back home, we started preparations for the homeowners' return tomorrow.
DINNER: An omelette with bits of meat, cheese, and veg....great way to use leftovers.
