September 11, 2016. Ireland arrival!

LOCATION:  Galway, Ireland
WEATHER:  Overcast.  Slight rain. Windy. Highs in 50s

We took a taxi from downtown Birmingham to the airport.  It was my first experience in a London-type taxi, sort of like this one....

We ate breakfast in the airport, trying to use up our pounds.

Then, on to Dublin, Ireland on a very small Aer Lingus airplane.  Tickets were quite reasonable at about $50 each for a one-hour flight.

We picked up our rental car and hit the highway west toward Galway.  We stopped in a country pub for lunch, with locals watching hockey on tv.  My first Guinness in Ireland....

The trip was about 2.5 hours.  Once we arrived in Galway, we got lost and drove about an hour trying to locate our VRBO.

Once settled, we walked around the city center.  Our VRBO is centrally located, so everything is nearby.  We walked into this unassuming bar that seemed like a dive.

However, it is a local gathering point of musicians.  One guy on a guitar, one drummer, a flutist, and several singers. They  took turns singing traditional Irish songs.  We were entranced!

For dinner, we ate delicious seafood at a fish & chips place.  George enjoyed this hooker.......(He made me say this)
