June 14, 2017. On the Road Again!

CAMPGROUND:  South Llano River State Park.  4 stars out of 5.  Shaded lots.  Electricity and water.  So-so bathrooms.  Near river for tubing.  Lots of families.  Nice fire pits and picnic tables at each site.

LOCATION:  In the Texas "Hill Country" - about 50 miles NW of Austin.

WEATHER:  Hot all day.  High 100.  We watched the car thermometer to see if it would cool off as we drove north.  No

And, we're off!

So much for an early start.  We had to wait around for the tradesmen to finish up some of the follow-up work on the 30-day inspection.  We left Retama Village at 10:40 AM.  Our goal was to get as far north as we could, in search of cool enough weather to camp.

We drove through a lot of "nothing", but then the scenery got much prettier around Austin.  This is "hill country" and it has nice hills with vegetation.  Lots of cows.  We stopped in Bandera, a real cowboy town, for gas.

Finally, when the outdoor temp got down to a "cool" 94, we started looking for someplace to stay.  We found a state park nearby, called to make sure there were vacant sites, and headed to South Llano State Park.  We had driven 384 miles today.  Quite a drive.

We hope that it will be this easy to find campsites all along the way.....there were plenty of sites available, so we looked around until we found the shadies, and handily near the restrooms. :-).    This is our entire route for the summer. Of course, we won't be taking the Airstream to Bangkok!
We didn't really take advantage of the river in the park.  It is popular for tubing, and swimming.
DINNER:  We are eating leftovers George had while I was away.  Tonight was spaghetti and a lettuce salad.  I cooked indoors as it was too hot to build a campfire.
